After my graduation, I ended up doing some music copying for awhile. It
was a good job for me at that time because I had small children to take
care of and I could do that at home. Of course now the same work would be
done with a computer. I have also had the opportunity to play bass,
basset horn, eb, etc. I think the universities should require clarinet
majors to play each of these instruments for at least a semester. Also, I
think it would be helpful if there was some teaching experience required
even for performance majors since one never knows if he may need to
teach. These things were not done at the university I went to. I managed
somehow anyway, but it would have been helpful to have had such things
offered. I also wish I had learned to play jazz a little and play more
freely and also by ear.
