Last year, around this time, we started research for our MUS 302: Music
lit from 500 Million years BTH (Before Tertian Harmony ^_^ ) until Bach
(or something like that), on which we were assigned a 15 page researched
history and analysis of a specific work (or set of works, if it was
appropriate). I chose the Bach Violoncello Suites, because of their
relevance to bass clarinetting. (Well, that was my excuse - they work
nice on most instruments, to be honest.)

What does this have to do with King George? Nothing, really.

But my friend, however, grabbed an easy work, the Messiah, to research.
So, here's the part that really matters (don't you hate to have to read
through all my junk when I could have just gotten to the point?). His
reasearch shows (and our professor mentioned it in class as well, in
agreeance) that King George's presence during the first run of Messiah was
never officially documented, and because it isn't recorded, it is more
possible that he WASN'T there. So the question at hand is closer to "Was
King George even at Messiah performances?" than it is to "Why did Georgie
stand up?"

At least, that's what my friend's (and professor's) work shows. *shrug*
