Myself and a few colleagues have become piano
technicians, but continue to perform upwards
of 150 freelance lounge-chamber type gigs a year.
It can be a good marriage of careers for the right
people. Working by appointment, I never have to
turn down performance due to work, am servicing
many musicians, school, halls all the time. It is
continuous ear training of a type (can play mean
tight unisons with the first chair).
