Is this a student model bass clarinet? I am not familiar with all of
Yamaha' model #'s.
For the most part Gary is right about student model bass clarinets.
Most of them employ a simple register venting mechanism that does not have
a vent tube on the neck. This misplacement of the vent tube for the upper
tones of the clarion can cause extreme resistance. It also sounds as though
the instrument needs some work. If this was sold to you as a new
instrument, then it should be in playable condition out of the box.
