Rimsky-Korsakov, was - Music for Solo Clarinet and Band I performed this
piece a few years ago with a local comcert band, the Highland Park (IL)
Symphonic Winds. Since it was an all-Russian concert, the conductor chose
this piece. In my humble opinion, this piece is BARELY worth performing.
There is so much GOOD literature, why bother with this piece. Don't get get
wrong, I admire the music of R-M. This piece, however, is NOT his best
effort. If you play this piece, you might as well go ahead and perform the
Sonata for Clarinet and Piano by Mendelssohn, that is in the Masterworks
for clarinet collection - Another Dog.

Oh the memories, there is a great article in the Instrumentalist archives
that was written by our own Dan L. about the top 10 dogs of the Clarinet
literature ("top 10 worst pieces in Clarinet Lit." as voted by a panel) if
I recall the name. A great read. Dan was in his rare form.
