There certainly is, or was, a published arrangement of the Artie Shaw
concerto. During my time in the RAF in the 60s I had to play it a
couple of times, and the band had a set of printed parts, but I don't
know who the publisher was.
I don't regard myself as much of a "swing" player, and I thought my
performance was pretty atrocious, but the other guys in the band seemed
to like it, so I must have got away with it somehow, even though I don't
think I ever managed that final altissimo C. However, I couldn't help
comparing myself with the original Artie Shaw recording (which I've
recently obtained again in a CD compilation), and I will never be able
to match his wonderful fluid, singing style.
However, it's a great solo if you've got the talent to do it well.
