Well we had our first concert. Went really well. The band played really
well. The audience loved it . One more on Sunday!
THe clarinet secion is a little small at present. At present we are coping
with 2 on first (one doubles on Eb when necessary) only one on second and 2
on 3rd with a Bass clarinet. We are in the process of recruiting more
Clarinets so if you know anyone who wants to join the best band in Australia
let us know.
For the concert we borrowed 3 more clarinets from the local Army Band giving
us 2 on first, 3 on second and 3 on third plus our bass. The soloist on Blue
Shades is a fellow names Andrew ("Lance") Boyle. A very talented
Clarinettist who just wowed the audience with the solo as well as the other
solos in the programme and anyone who knows lue Shades will also be aware of
the great Bass Clari part in it. Our girl on Bass, Alison Kent does a
fantastic job...can get a real bass grunt when needed. Me... well I just
came off Bass after playing it for a couple of years (typical... I would
love to have played it for Blue Shades!) and am now playing 3rd with the
Worrant Officer...we figure that we have both had our time in the lime light
(I have done 16 years and the Woff has done 26 years!) In that time I have
played all the chairs (but I must admit was willing to give up the lime
light for the younger and more talented players!)
Still I hope that gives a little interesting(??) info into the RAAF Band.
All the best
Rod
