This is pretty far-fetched (so it will probably fit right it), but I got
a similar effect - sympathetic vibrations - after moving into a new
house. I now practice in a room with a large ceiling fan, and I was
getting the weirdest metallic, vibrational ringing the first time I
practiced. It wasn't entirely different from a vibrating pad, but much
more intense. Of course, it was the acoustical quirks of the large
rotating fan blades interacting with the clarinet sounds and the walls
and ceiling. Just a thought, in case anything like that might be a
factor.
