Next, I would like to ask what clarinet you list people would recommend for

Whats the best I could get for my money, and where? I don't mind paying
extra carriage from US, if it gets me the right instrument.

Wendy,
A couple of the biggest woodwind suppliers in the UK carry fairly large
secondhand stock. Dawkes Music (http://www.windcraft.co.uk/dawkesmain.htm)
part of Windcraft, probably the most-used supplier of repair materials, are
in Berkshire, and Myatt's (http://www.myatt.co.uk) are in Herts. Both do
mail order and will guarantee secondhand instruments (unless they are
selling on commission). I also agree that you're best sticking to the major
manufacturers (and wouldn't really recommend the B&H Emperor - currently on
both the above companies' secondhand lists. I didn't like it when I tried a
couple when they were sold new)
Best of luck with your quest...

Ian.
