I thought some of
you may be interested in the programme we are performing:

>Fanfare For a New Era - Jack Stamp
>Gumsucker's March - Percy Grainger
>Folk Song Suite - Ralph Vaughan Williams (an oldy but a goody and very
popular with audiences)
>Excursions for Trumpet - Bruce Broughton (I believe this is the premier
performance of this piece)
>Sousa March Melody
>Colonel Bogey From Scratch - Arr. Ron Mitchell (starts with just the drums
on stage then each section of the band come in until the piece is complete
by about the 2nd (?) subject (Maybe the trio section ) anyway it always goes
down well.
>Enigma Variations - Edward Elgar
>Blue Shades - Frank Tichelli (Great piece with a real corker of a clarinet
solo!!!)
>Elsa's Procession - Richard Wagner

Dear Rod:

Great line-up for your concert down under! I always wonder how much new band
literature is being played in countries besides the US. I see you guys did
pieces by Jack Stamp and Ticheli, not to mention the one you premiered. The
best thing about your concert selections is the mix--you have orchestral
transcriptions and marches, not to mention classic band pieces and a solo
feature, along with your new stuff. That's what planning is all about.

What is the distribution of your clarinet section--how many do you have, and
what auxillary clarinets are there?

I live in the Orlando area, and we had almost no effects from the hurricane.
They were really making it sound like we would get winds of 75mph for most of
the day Tuesday, but by the afternoon it was evident Floyd had changed
course, and we were spared. Thanks so much for keeping us in your thoughts,
though. :-) Now we have to worry about those poor people in the Carolinas!

Thanks for sharing your concert with us!

ps My community band just performed Blue Shades in June--guess who got to
wail on the clarinet solo??!!
