Thanks for your comments.
I've decided to persevere with tenon/cork adjustments, if required.
It has been a frustrating learning experience.
When I set out to buy this instrument, I was armed with a
"thousand-and-one-things-to-look-for" check list, formulated from previous
experience, various authors, teachers, etc. Yet, I still managed to
overlook the obvious "thousand and two" item ie. "watch salesperson put
clarinet together and pull it apart" OR better still, do it yourself.
