<<<On new Clarinets the tenons will swell during the break in period. A
good repairman would be able to lightly sand down the tenon which should
alleviate the problem of sticking. This happened to my R-13 when it was new
it took a repair about 60 seconds to repair the problem and I have had no
problems since then.>>>

My R-13 had a similar problem when new--wood on wood tension made it
impossible to get the barrel off!

William McColl, my teacher at the time (and a restorer of ancient clarinets
with a LOT of experience), helped me out. TO get the thing apart, he
advised me to let the horn cool down, and them pop it in the refrigerator.
It worked, and the horn did not crack.

Before we put it back together, we took a small thumbnail of sandpaper and
sanded to SOCKET of the barrel. This was easy--put the sandpaper in the
socket w/ thumb, and rotate barrel with the other hand--sort of a "lathe
lite." Because grenedilla is about as hard as a diamond, it took a lot of
effort to get very little wood off. If you are careful not to touch the
bore of the barrel, there is zero chance of screwing up your horn--even if
you take off a bit too much, just have the tenon cork beefed up.

That was 25 years ago. I play it every day. Seems to have worked.
