Subj: [kl] Odd MP Problem

There is a reason that Hite, Fobes, Pyne, Ridenour, Hall, etc., have
developed beginning level mouthpieces, and deserve our support.

Yesterday I was going to fix a new private 10th grade student's plastic
VITO mouthpiece for a bump on the tip rail. I took an initial stroke on
the table and discovered that NONE of the side rail was touched by the 600
paper. The top facing number was under a 2 and the tip opening was under
80! It took over 35 strokes, split between new 400 and new 600 paper to
get the table down where the rails were flat with the table to a standard
bottom facing number. After I put on a standard facing (Wright style) I
let her play it.

The wide eyes and greatly improved sound said it all. Since it was only
her second lesson, I had not yet asked her parents to invest in a better
MP. I did now.

It is sad that a company would put it's name on such a poor product!
