Nancy, you said it!
I, too, find pants preferable to dresses/skirts for concert attire. For one thing, I am short enough that the bell of my=
clarinet usually touches my skirt, which produces all sorts of intonation problems! And trying to play a bass clarinet =
while wearing a skirt can be a strategic challenge of a different nature. I would much rather wear efficient concert clo=
thing than be preoccupied with constantly adjusting my skirt, tripping on my hem while carrying various instruments, musi=
c, stands up stairs and backstage, and, yes, staining my skirt with the moisture flowing from the clarinet.

Personally, I find it much more comfortable to work in pants. I can
understand the necessity of a uniform appearance for some functions, but I
think it is better to be able to focus on the music at ahnd, rather than
whether the edge of my skirt is stuck under my shoe or that I am staining my
skirt with the condensation flowing from my clarinet. Black slacks and a
dark or whitw top is more than adequate.
