Manufacturers should
be held responsible for using an inferior plating
material, i.e. nickel. Other than that, the only blame
or gripe should be directed at mother nature and damn
nickel plate!

I am following the discussion on plating with a lot of attention and wanted
to wait little bit before take part of this discussion. First when I read
that Manufacture should be held responsible for using inferior plating
material like Nickel I am little bit surprise. I think most players like
Nickel plating and not only for the price but for the feel as well as for the
sound. I explain myself and it is only my opinion you may think I am crazy
fine everybody know that :-). Since the posts are thread on the wood the
plating (in my opinion ) play a role very important in the sound of the
instrument. This said I do not think the plating on the keys has much
importance either than feeling and cosmetic (some people do like the look of
Nickel and the feel of it) I do am I the only one?. Silver plated posts will
bring more High harmonics and will focus the sound little bit more than
Nickel. Now this is where I love this we are going back to one things doesn't
always work for everybody the same way because of material, embouchure and so
on. So I may totally be wrong I just based my ststement on experience working
with many different players over the years. I did not work for every players
in North America but I know most of them and heard most of them and worked
for some of them. What I am trying to say is please don't think we are trying
to only make money,we are pround of our instruments and do our best to keep
it on top. On the other hand you have to pay the people, craftsmen who make
those instruments. Does anybody work for free? This is my answer to Bill
Haussman who apparently think we are not trying to keep the quality on our
instruments. Did you try a Buffet lately? Again I spend my time making sure
the instrument are good for the musician, I put my name on this. On the other
hand I deal with a lot of warranty work and I can tell you all that often I
see instruments brand new coming back lokking like they are 6 years old.
Because the player don't swab it,never claen the keys so the acidity attack
the plating and nickel react to acidity more than silver but silver react as
well if you don't wipe the keywork evrytime you played with a coton
clothe, and so on. Like I said earlier this month I will check with the
factory to see if they changed anything in the plating process but I don't
think they did.If you have a chance to go to France let me know I will arange
you a tour at the factory and you will see by yourself if our plating process
is "cheap"
