Frank,
It's great to hear from folks like you; all t often in this youth-oriented
society we forget that just because one is 65+ doesn't mean one is washed-up
and is unable to "learn new tricks," so to speak.
As for the way you practice, it's pretty much my approach, too; chunk
things into bite-size pieces, then string them together. (I also find that
it helps to overlap phrases I'm working on, and alter rhythms, for instance,
even 16ths become dotted 16th with 32nds.)
Keep having fun, that's the bottom line!
