When my brand new R-13 Greenline started losing its plating off the Ab/G# key,
I first thought the problem might have been that I was too vigorously polishing
my
new clarinet, since my *VERY* old (at least 1950s) student model did not have
this problem. However, given the number of times I' ve been seeing others
complain
about this with the new R-13s, I believe the problem does lie with them and not
with our acidic or otherwising corrupting fingers. Otherwise, why wouldn't my
*VERY*
old nickel plated clarinet have the same problem as my very new nickel plated
clarinet?

As Ben Maas said earlier, I'll have mine silver plated when I have it
overhauled. But
I contend that a nearly brand new, expensive, allegedly professional quality
clarinet
shouldn't be having this problem. The fact that it does reflects poorly upon
Buffet,
in my opinion.
