Audrey, Great to here you are enjoying the clarinet. Although I am far from
an expert player I think you might want to try a chromatic approach to your
finger speed issue.
Start at low E go chromaticly up to G# and back down to E. All notes of equal
value. Repeat four or five times, hold and listen to last note. Next, 1/2
step up to F... up t o A and down. Start slow and gradually build yourself
up to faster speeds. You can go through range of clarinet and practice both
slurred and tongued if you wish.
David Pino in his book "the clarinet player and clarinet playing"
recommends using the "metronome by notch " method for picking up facility
gradually(start slow). he says the player is forced to refrain from picking
up the tempo too rapidly. For whatever it is worth he suggests that the
fingering must be in place and the tonguing should take place at the last
possible split second.. Regards,, John
