There are a number of Universities in the U. S. that have had clarinet
choirs of varying sizes for a number of years. Three that come to mind are:
the University of Illinois at Champain-Urbana
the University of Ohio (YOungstown, I believe; I'm not sure)
the University of Maryland - College Park
Please correct me if I am wrong about any of these.
Back in the late 70's the U. of Illinois sponsored a massed choir program,
inviting choirs from all over the east to come; we ended up having 105
college clarinetists playing on Eb, Bb, Eb alto, Bb bass, Eb contra-alto and
Bb contra-bass clarinets. Most of what we played, if not all, of the music
was transcriptions, but, if nothing else, we had a good time.
