Correct. Written about 1816, originally for "Panharmonicon," a mechanical
orchestra invented by Herr Maelzel (the same fellow who invented the
metronome). Re-written shortly after for regular orchestra with real live
people.

Actually, the British are represented by "Rule, Britannia!" It is the
French who are represented by "For he's a jolly good fellow," or "The bear
went over the mountain." It's a French folk song. The bugles don't play
either of those tunes -- but there are "French" and "English" bugle calls,
challenge and response, in different keys.
