I believe you're talking about the _Vocal Rhythm Etudes_ by Bill Douglas.
He has a trio, the Bill Douglas Trio (catchy name, eh?) composed of himself
(bassoon and piano and staff paper), John Steinmetz (bassoon) and an Indian
drummer (*he's* not Indian, he drums in that style...). The trio has done
work with Richard Stoltzman. I found a web site for Douglas, but my browser
couldn't make the connection; the address is
http://www.well.com/~listen2/bass/. I can make you a copy (he freely allows
this) of the book and tape, but the tape would be a second generation copy.
I can get you his address if you are not successful going to his web site.
