It is very likely that the instrument is still out of adjustment, all the
more so because of the tight tenon joints. All that squeezing and grunting
to assemble the horn puts great strain on the keys. Take the instrument to
a qualified repair tech, or make the first tech finish the job right. If
it is brand new, it should be covered by warrantee. The corks can be
sanded if that is the problem. Sometimes the wood itself is binding, not
just the corks, and I would leave adjusting that to a professional. It
takes very little leakage to mess up the first notes in the clarion
register. Rather than allowing misadjustment to frustrate and discourage
your student, have the clarinet properly repaired.
