I have a student who started clarinet 7 months ago. At first she was
progressing nicely, but then two weeks ago, she dropped her clarinet,
and the keys had to be bent back into shape. Since she got her clarinet
back last week, all of a sudden she can't go over the break, something
she has done well in the past.

She is quite upset about this, and at the last lesson, she realized that
she has not progressed as well as she should be. One of the problems is
that she started school again, ( they start early in Israel) and with
all the homework she can't eek out a half hour a day to practice. I
told her that even 10 minutes twice a day is ok. I' ve gone back to
exersizes to go over the break again, but rewrote them a little
differently so she doesn't feel like she's playing the same thing that
someone who is playing only for 2 months can play.

One problem with her clarinet, a Signet wooden, brand new, is that the
corks are too tight, that it takes real strength to put together the
clarinet. Cork grease helps, but not much. This takes her the time is
to set up and put away that she really needs to practice.

Does any one have any suggestions?

Thank you very much,
