I've played absolutely dreadful wooden clarinets and very decent plastic
ones. IMHO I wouldn't buy an Artley clarinet no matter what but would
prefer a student level Buffet, LeBlanc or Yamaha (I detest Bundy/Selmer
student instruments). Not that I'm an expert, but as a kid I was saddled
with an off brand wooden clarinet and would have been much better off with a
plastic clarinet from a top tier manufacturer.
