Klarinet Archive - Posting 000924.txt from 1999/08

Can someone recommend a good book which would contain an illustrated
history of fingering systems used on the clarinet? I once saw a collection
of 100+ vintage clarinets and, while not all different, they contained an
amazing aray of old-standard, variations, and experimental designs. I think
this would be fascinating reading and would enjoy learning more. May I
stress that a picture is worth a thousand words, so I really would like
something with photographs of these systems (simply reading about them is
like reading about the moves in a chess game - yawn).
Thanks to anyone who may be aware of such a resource.
