I have noticed that my number 4 Michellurie Reeds last about 2-3 months.
However, at about 2 months, they start getting old and don't sound as pure.
How long should I keep one reed for?
Thanks
Derek

Hold the reed up to a light - when it starts to get that "permed" look
(the fibers start to look wavy in the light instead of straight) it is time
to change reeds. If you are comfortable with a reed, it is possible for it
to start loosing it's sound and not be noticed for a little while. I tend
to find that a reed will last from 1 1/2 to 3 weeks (3 weeks maximum with a
commercial reed). I know of hand-made reeds lasting 2 months.
As Howard Klug says at his masterclasses "don't keep your reed like a
family heirloom".
