Crystal,
I read the first response to your message, and it hit the major points.
As far as which brands of reads last the longest, plastic are best, but
*from what I have read on this list* (I have not yet tried any of them),
tone, especially the higher one plays, suffers. I use Vintage reeds, made
by an Australian company (of cane grown in Australia) and I have had good
luck. The cane seems to be a little denser than in most commercial reeds,
the grain is generally clearer and more even, and I get more playable reeds
out of one box. Part of the philosophy of the company (hence the name
"Vintage") is that they age the cane before making the reeds (anyone who
makes there own reeds realizes the importance of this). You can find them
on the web at http://www.musicsolutions.com.au/products/reeds.htm.
You can also get a *lot* of information of the Sneezy pages; go there if
you haven't (http://www.sneezy.org).
Good luck!
Bruce
