If you have a hard rubber mouthpiece that was made approx. in the last 10
years that may be your problem. The newer hard rubber composition has
changed from years ago. I don't know exactly what was changed. This new
composition, combined with the case glues, cause a reaction and can oxidize
nickel plating. The plating usually turns cloudy and then wears. To
avoid this problem do not store you mouthpiece in the clarinet compartment.
Also has anyone notice the difference in wear and discoloration between the
older hard rubber mouthpieces and the newer ones?.
