I recently shared with this list my gushing enthusiasm for a wood mouthpiece
that I purchased from Gregory Smith. In response to my post, one list member
wrote to me privately, wondering why I didn't just buy some wood blanks and
have them refaced. In the interest of clearing up any misconceptions, it is
my understanding that Gregory works a LOT more magic on a mouthpiece than a
refacing alone would involve. But I'm no expert in this area. Perhaps by
giving a glimpse of some basics concerning mouthpiece-making, Gregory could
help to educate us all a bit more about what is arguably the most important
part of a clarinet.
