I have been using a PC for 10 years at home. At work a mixture of PC
and Mac. 3 years ago my school bought a lot of Power Macs for 4 labs
and did we ever have trouble with them. Half of them had a video
problem. After several months about half of the units began to have
pink or purple screens which got worse as the months rolled on. Some
would start doing wierd math, like numbering spreadsheet cells with
numbers that were from 32,000 and up. Couldn't fix it. Gave up and
tried to use these numbers in cell addresses but it doesn't work. Being
a school we worked directly with Apple and the people to whom the
subcontracted the repairs.

I was told they discovered the video problem - problems with quality
control allowed BooCoo video cables were installed that allowed current
leakage due to the insulation being too short at the connector.

Last year we (the teachers) were upgraded to the Power Mac G3. Not many
problems this time except for my computer. When I scroll the screen it
begins to move then the upper half freezes in place and the lower half
seems to slide up under the top half. We've tried to get it fixed for
over a year now while still on warranty. They say the machine has a
"bad personality card". Who ever heard of that. They subcontracted the
repair to a local shop. Why? The Mac plant is here in Sacramento,
They could have sent an expert. The local repair man signed his company
paper work as "repair completed" with out ever working on my Mac. So
here we start another school year with a frustrating monitor.

I will never buy a Mac for myself. I've never had a problem with any of
my PCs. IBM Model 50, a custom job, and now a Toshiba Satellite
portable.

I've noticed that Its not usually the machine that crashes, it is
usually the operating system (windows) or weak config.sys or
autoexec.bat settings.

Any one else have problems with their power mac g3 video scroll feature?
