Roger: a bit more information about what the repair people may be seeing when
the Buffet key plating wears off. Buffet does a copper "pre-plating" before
the nickel plating goes on the keys. This is apparently because some of the
earlier plating rippled and came off too easily. When the current process of
plating wears off a Buffet key, there is a halo-like copper rim around the
worn part. When I asked about the red rim around the worn places on a Buffet
some years ago, I was told by Boosey/Buffet about this pre-plating process.
