Yes -- I'm well acquainted with Dan's informative postings on the Mozart,
and while I mentioned that the version I have is marked "Cadenza", it does
seem to be more of an "Eingang" in that it isn't very long and drawn out --
it is just a simple descending run to lead into the eventual resolution.

Also -- just to clarify about my audition -- I'm not auditioning for
admission to the School of Music to be a music major. It's just to play in
the wind ensemble, though certainly the same principles Neil mentioned do
apply.

In the recording I have of the piece with Emma Johnson as the soloist, she
doesn't embellish upon what's on the page, which is why I wasn't sure if it
is appropriate. However, after having heard so much about spontaneous
improvisation in Mozart's concerto, I came to wonder if the same principle
should apply here with Weber?

I think I'll start to play around with the "Eingang" and see if I can come
up with something simple that I like, however, I'm not going to go overboard
with it, as I don't want to take unneccesary liberties. I remember Dan
saying of improvisation in Mozart that simplicity is sometimes best and
overdoing it can ruin the performance.
