Subj: [kl] RE: More... Audience Distractions - A Response

I should have been more precise in my initial message about Isaac Stern
because several readers assumed that the coughing that triggered Isaac's
outburst was by a single individual. Not so in this case...many people in
the audience has colds or flu and there was a hack here, a slight
cough-cough there, etc. etc.

The "annoyance" came from just about every quarter of the hall. Not that
that necessarily would influence anyone's opinion, except if every patron
with a throat tickle that evening had been required to leave the concert
hall, the upheaval during the concert no doubt would have produced another
problem! :-)

And by the way...I agree heartily..."concert manners" have deteriorated
measurably over the past several years. The "whispering" is bad enough, but
one of my pet peeves is the constant side to side head movement that
accompanies the incessant talking. I'm short...and short waisted in the
bargain...but enjoy watching as well as listening to performers. Which, in
the aforementioned circumstances, I sometimes get to do only 50% of the
time.

There are moments when I'd like to grab the shoulders of the person in
front of me and drive them down into the seat. But I refrain, of course,
because I understand jail is a very unpleasant environment in general and,
more importantly, there's no guarantee you can practice your horn there.
