Cindy,

Can you tell us what was your best mouthpiece before using the wood ones,
and what clarinet you are using?

Subject: [kl] WOOD MOUTHPIECES by Gregory Smith

A couple weeks ago Abe Galper (agalper@-----.com) wrote how impressed he
was with an old Buffet wood mouthpiece that Christopher Hill
(christopherhill@-----.

Fearing the day would come when that old Buffet mouthpiece would warp or
otherwise fail, I purchased a NEW wood mouthpiece designed by Gregory Smith
(Gregory_Smith_Clarinet@-----. I figured the Smith mouthpiece
would
be a good backup. To my delight, my new cocobolo mouthpiece surpasses even
the vintage Buffet mouthpiece.

After playing on it for 6 hours or more now, I can say that Gregory's
mouthpiece is easy blowing, smooth between registers, very sweet, and
flexible. What really surprised me (pleasantly) is how it makes my staccato
and my control of dynamics so much better/easier. I'm not a professional
musician so I need every bit of help I can get to sound better, and Gregory
Smith's mouthpiece does the trick for me.

Gregory tells me that even professional players the world over are WOWED by
his wood mouthpieces. I can only imagine how GREAT I would sound if I were a

professional clarinetist playing on one of these...

Anyway, Greg offers a range of facings and a choice of exotic woods. You
might have to experiment a bit but he allows you to return mouthpieces for
credit or exchange. In fact, I am returning a second mouthpiece to Greg as
we
speak because it is a tad stuffy for me. In exchange, I've asked Greg to
send
me another "perfect" mouthpiece like the first one ;-)

At $200 a new wood mouthpiece isn't cheap. But for me, it was a worthwhile
investment in the quality of my playing and the PLEASURE I derive from
playing clarinet.
