Just one suggestion. Don't try to tackle everything at once. Take one
thing at a time and work to correct it. Trying to get it all is frustrating
for both student and teacher. Although I haven't taught clarinet, I have
taught martial arts and I had one 8 year old student who could not even tie
his own shoes. By working one detail at a time, he did not get discouraged
and I did not get frustrated. I asked his parents to by him shoes with
velcro fasteners as I was not, not, not about to tie his shoes for him after
class. The teaching was difficult enough. However, he did progress at a
slow but still reasonable pace and was able to pass his belt tests. He
continued as one of my students until my regular job required me to relocate
to another area.
