I have to share last night w/ the list, 'cuz my wife (an o**e player) and I
just had a ball.

A couple of days ago, my wife & I got an invitation from a h**n playing
friend of ours to come over, oboe & clarinet in hand, just to read through
the Gran Partita. (Mozart's Serenade No. 10, possibly the greatest wind
piece ever written). Of course, a couple of rounds of drinks afterward.

What a great piece of music. The folks that Renee & Barney lined up were
all pretty good. One more rehearsal and we could perform it--but that's not
the point. Don't get me wrong--I LOVE performing in front of an
audience--but this was just getting together and playing through for the
heck of it. I am always getting ready for performance, so I don't get to do
much of that any more.

People I work with (i.e., the day job) often wonder why I spend so much time
on this clarinet thing (like going to a concert once and a while might be
enough of a "fix" for my "habit"). They just don't get it, do they? How
can one explain the joys of actually playing Mozart to one who has
never--and unless the totally redirect their life, will never--do so?

My oh my, how lucky we are.
