Lelia, the Sumner acousticut mouthpiece was made in Minneapolis. I am not
sure if the company is still in existence. I've seen several of these, being
from that general area, and the blank is quite good, but the facing is
usually not very responsive. The mouthpiece could be a replacement as Dee
suggests, or it could have been a part of a music store "package" with an
ungraded mouthpiece. You did well for $35 regardless of anyone's regard,
high or low, for a Signet. Schmidt Music in Minneapolis was a major
distributor of the Sumner products. They also made a strangely designed,
heavy ligature.
