I just received Fallen Leaf Press's "40%-off Summer Sale" catalogue. Of
interest ot me is a piece by one Robert Greenberg called "By Various
Means" for clarinet, violin, viola, 'cello. Has anyone had any exposure
either to Mr. Greenberg's music or this piece in particular? What I'm
interested in finding out is: Is his music serial or totally atonally
dissonant? Or is it something other than that (such as aleatoric music -
with sections of bursts of sound, or even [gasp!] tonal)? What interests
me is the instrumentation - it would be fairly easy to get musicians and
locations to play this.
