DO you mean "middle C" on the Grand Staff (1 leger line below the treble
staff) or the C in the middle of the clarinet (3rd space treble)? In either
case, a "singing" pad (caused by loose skin) could be making a ringing
sound - it would need to be a pad that's open when you play the notes in
question. Might be a loose bell ring or barrel ring. If you're talking about
clarion C (3rd space) the linkage between the left-hand lever keys and their
right-hand doubles could have worn noise dampers (cork on a student
instrument or fish-skin on an instrument with pins at the ends of the levers
that fit into holes on the matching r.h. key mechanisms). I'm sure I could
think of others it I sat here another few minutes.

Have someone else press lightly on each piece of hardware on the
instrument one at a time while you play one of the notes in question. If
pressing on a particular key or post (or ring) stops the noise, at least
you've located it, even if you don't see the problem (you may still need a
repair tech to figure out WHY the ringing is happening, but at least you'll
have narrowed down WHERE it is.).

Good luck. It isn't the same thing, exactly, but my wife, who is a
violist, heard an intermittent ringing that she couldn't locate for months.
Finally, she took it to her repairman, who found a small piece of ivory
inlay on the tailpiece that was loose. A very small drop of glue fixed it in
seconds. Large noises can come from tiny places.

Subject: [donax-m] Welcome

Just checking the log - there's 34 people currently signed up on the donax-m
list.

I know that some of you wonder how the accept/reject works (the mechanical
part, anyway). If you send a message and put "reject this" as a subject, one
of us will reject it with a rejection message. That way you can get an idea
of how that part works.

New lists always tend to be quiet at first.
