I have been using for some time an Otto Link metal alto sax mouthpiece with
the ligature modified just as you describe. The plate that contacts the
reed on that ligature is almost identical to one of the Optimum plates. I
don't remember who advised me to try it, but it does seem to work!

you mean you're using the vandoren, or the eddie daniels ligature???
