Bingo! Jeff gets the golden mouthpiece!

Pretty astute - and you are very correct. Kaspars were made from blanks
that contained ingredients that the EPA no longer allows in the process -
and don't ask me what they are because I don't know! However, I have
heard it from Jim Green and from Richard Hawkins - so I pass the info
along. >>
I'm going to have to go along with this until I find out more info.

A friend offerred me an old Frank Wells mouthpiece several months ago. From
the look of it, it had to be 30 years old.

When I tried it, it was almost unplayable, it was so worn. However, there was
something in the core of the sound that I really liked.

I spent the better part of a week working with this mouthpiece, and adjusting
it to a normal, typical facing.

Now I have put this same facing on a dozen mouthpiece blanks, with varying
results. And yes, I was very very careful. But the results were SO much
better than anything I had acheived before. Was I better? I don't think so.

Comparing every measurement that I know how to make, this moithpiece is no
different than others which I have.

However not only me, but others can hear a MAJOR difference in the way this
thing sounds. So, until or unless I hear otherwise, it must be the material.
