For those in the Orange County/San Diego area:

Osvaldo Golijov's wonderful "Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind"
quintet for clarinet and strings will be performed this coming Sunday at
3 pm, as part of the Ja Jolla Summerfest '99, Sherwood Auditorium, 700
Prospect St., Ja Jolla. The clarinetist is Todd Palmer, with the St.
Lawrence Quartet. Golijov is Argentine-born, of Jewish parents, and his
music reflects both the Klezmer tradition and Argentine tango music.
IMHO this quintet ranks with the Mozart and Brahms quintets. By the
way, clarinetist David Krakauer (a fine Klezmer artist) has recorded
this work with the Kronos Quartet on Nonsuch Records.
