Sigh.........I hate being the only one to contribute to actual
information. The mouthpiece makers remain silent except when they feel
that someone might take their business away.

Richard Hawkins says it very well - the less you do to them, the better.
The more material taken away from the face, the more shallow the depth of
the chamber becomes which translates to higher overtones/focus/projection.
In short - brighter.
