"A student comes in with a 5RV and says, "I don't like my mouthpiece." I
try the mouthpiece and don't like it either. I have the student play for me
and watch his embouchure, use of air, amount of mouthpiece taken in,
strength of reed, and make a recommendation. I also have mouthpieces on
hand for the student to try. In some cases, if a student likes a particular
one I have on hand, I can try to match it with the 5RV - often it can be
done simply.

Thanks, Roger. Hey, I was just trying to LEARN about what refacing actually
is. You supplied the answer i was searching for:

REFACING --- a technician's changes to the physical properties of a
mouthpiece .. taking into account information obtained from LISTENING to
player's present sound production as well as VISUAL OBSERVATION of the
player's embouchure and related setup

Anybody got any changes to the definition ??? Thanks.

mw.
