Whoa! This is not a statement I'd like to make! They may sound best for
you, but I have a feeling you may be in a minority here. I stopped playing
Rico Royal after about my third year - I've been on Vandoren ever since. I
find that they give me the sound I'm after (I use standard Vandorens, not
the V12). Rico Royals I've always found incredibly inconsistent, not just
between reeds, but from day to day on the same reed. I had some bass
clarinet RRs (I was stuck for reeds and couldn't get any Vandorens), and
they NEVER played the same. Now, if I can't get Vandoren, I'll use Mitchell
Lurie.

Good advice. But I would seriously consider trying it with Vandoren, not
Rico Royal. The standard blue box Vandorens are similar strength to
Mitchell Luries, although I tend to use a 3 1/2 Mitchell Lurie and a 3
Vandoren. I think the V12s are a bit harder.

Depends very much on the reed. I've had Mitchell Luries which have lasted
me absolutely ages, and then I've had Vandorens which have died after a
week.

Do some experimentation and try a few things (could be that the 3 1/2 is a
bit hard). Trying different reeds is less costly than mouthpieces and you
may find it solves your problem.
