Problem with any stock mouthpiece is that they vary WIDELY in quality. I have
a friend (semiprofessional) who recently acquired a Vandoren 5RV Lyre. She
sounds great on this mouthpiece. I'm trying to figure out how to mug her in
the parking lot, yet not have her recognise me (joke). It's that good.

However, would I go buy a Vandoren 5RV Lyre witout testing it? No way.

The best bet is to go with a mouthpiece maker who TESTS his (or her) products
and stands behind them. I still think the one of the best sources for an
excellent mouthpiece is Roger Garrett. (no, Roger does not pay me).

One of these days Roger will wise up and sell his mouthpieces for $100 to
$200 like everybody else. Until then, snap 'em up guys and gals.

Who one day will give Roger a run for his money, heehee!
