Apparently they went to a cheaper manufacturing method (no surprise here).
And the formulation may have changed to reduce the free sulphur, but
Vandorens are definitely hard rubber.

Selmer PARIS mouthpieces are hard rubber. SOME Selmer USA mouthpieces are
(the more expensive ones, of course).
