James,
Since I actually make up to 50% of my salary doing Klezmer music,
I am probably one of the most informed people on this list about Klezmer.
Klezmer clarinet is a term used like "classical clarinet" or "jazz
clarinet". It is not an instrument, but a style of clarinet playing
dictated by the style of the music.
The relationship of Klezmer music to the clarinet is exactly that
of any other style of music, either classical or folk, to the clarinet.
Clarinet is one of the lead melody instruments in a Klezmer music
ensemble; sometimes THE lead melody instrument.
There are lots of postings about Klezmer in the archives of the
Klarinet, if you want some more information.
