Depends on your definition of "good enough".

Direct LP to CD (not even using the cheap mike preamp on just about any CD
card, but the line input) shows a marked degradation in sound quality.
However, most of the better cards today have provisions for optical inputs.
Buying all optical components for hooking the system together would be
costly, though.

If you're going to record from microphone, at least bypass the board preamp
by using a (Mackie has been my favorite) outboard preamp when recording. The
Mackies are user-customizable at the circuit board level - you can get
directions on which traces to cut/bypass and components to solder in to make
the board really work with your selection of mike.
