THE LION TAMER RAG by Mark Janza, arranged for Woodwind Quintet by Clesen
Havill Smith. Dating from 1913, "The Lion Tamer Rag" is a splendid example
of ragtime from the Ohio River Valley This flashy rag (subtitled "A
Syncopated Fantasia" by the composer) moves ceaselessly from beginning to
end, with wide arpeggios, complex rhythmic by-play between bass and treble,
and a driving rhythmic pulse throughout. It's a ragtime tour de force, but
one that is just plain fun to play and to listen to. This is brand new
sheet music, laser-printed on high-quality paper, which has never been sold
and is in absolutely new, pristine condition. The arrangement is scored for
standard Woodwind Quintet: C Flute, Oboe, Bb Clarinet, Horn in F and
Bassoon. A transposed full score is also included. Meter: 2/4 Key: G
Major, C Major Performance Time: 4:00
